DEATH ANGEL Teams Up With Producer JASON SUECOF For New Album

February 24, 2010

San Francisco Bay Area metal veterans DEATH ANGEL have been holed up in their Oakland, California studio for the past few months writing songs for their next Nuclear Blast release, tentatively due in September. The band is scheduled to enter Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida in March with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER) to start tracking the new record.

Commented guitarist Rob Cavestany: "Jason is one of my favorite producers churning out some of the sickest slabs of metal out there today. I am so stoked to have the chance to co-produce our next record with him. It's gonna be vicious! The band is on fire right now in the thick of pre-production and the new songs are crushing! We can't wait to start tracking!"

Added DEATH ANGEL vocalist Mark Osegueda: "We are so excited about the opportunity to work with Jason on the upcoming album.

"The new material is the most aggressive and technical music we have written in years. So we needed a producer that was capable of unleashing the tones that match and complement the overall vibe of the songs. With Jason's experience in producing some of the most brutal contemporary metal artists and albums of today, I know we made the right choice! I think the collaboration between the two of us will prove to be venomous and infectious! It will be DEATH ANGEL's first album ever recorded outside of our home state of California.

"We will be heading out to Jason's very own Audiohammer studios for total immersion into what I can guarantee will be the heaviest DEATH ANGEL album to date!"

The band plans to post regular updates from the studio on their MySpace page and brand new web site.

DEATH ANGEL debuted two brand new songs — "River" and "Into The Arms Of Righteous Anger" — during its appearance at last year's Speedfest, which was held November 28, 2009 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. The concert marked the group's first appearance with bassist Damien Sisson (pictured below; SCARECROW, POTENTIAL THREAT) following the departure of Sammy Diosdado (THE SICK, ALL TIME HIGHS).

Fan-filmed video footage of the "Into The Arms" performance can be viewed below.

DEATH ANGEL's longtime drummer and original member Andrew Galeon left the band in April 2009 and has since been replaced by Will Carroll, formerly of SCARECROW, OLD GRANDAD and VICIOUS RUMORS.

Regarding Galeon's departure from DEATH ANGEL, singer Mark Osegueda told Contraband Candy, "[Touring] was always hard on Andy. And when he started having children, it got a bit more difficult. And by the [time he had his] second [kid], you could just see he wasn't happy on the road. Amazing drummer, but just not happy on the road; the road's not for everyone. It's easier when you're 18 to 22, and it's much more difficult when you have children and you're trying to pay mortgages and what-not. Unfortunately, he had hit his wall, and then we got Will Carroll, who's been part of the San Francisco metal scene for years. And we just got him to start filling in, and it's been going great. He brings a great thrash element to the band; it's kind of kicked it up a notch. It's been incredible. And the energy we have on stage now, it's just kind of undeniable."
